Thank you to all who have reached out to our family and shown your love and support after the death of my Uncle Joe. My whole family appreciates the gestures of kindness and the reminders of how God uses His people to comfort those who are grieving. Thank you.
Today was a semi typical Tuesday as I took Josh, Hanny, Sam, and Ben down to Bracebridge for a gymnastics class. My Aunt Michelle came with me and we chit-chatted the whole drive remembering Joe – all the laughs we used to have while living together when I was young. Little things come up as you remember someone, and it was great to have a connection with another person to chat with!
Hope the day is treating you well, and that you are enjoying these short daily Jesse Tree Devotionals. I am still feeling rather unsure about them, but I like filling in the missing days and having the reading ready to go by supper time. Happy Holidays!
Jesse Tree Day Six (Ram Symbol)
Genesis 22:7-8 “Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?” “Yes, my son?” Abraham replied. “The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together.”
God had given Sarah and Abraham a son just as He promised. One day God decided to give Abraham a test, not like a test you take in school but instead a test of faith. God wanted to witness Abraham’s true love for Him as God, and allow Abraham a chance to honour God’s request.
God asked Abraham to take his son Isaac up a mountain, and then to offer him as a sacrifice. As they were walking Isaac realized that there was no lamb with them, Abraham reassured him with the simple truth he knew “the Lord will provide”. Abraham knew in his heart that God can be trusted at His word, even in an impossible situation, God will keep His promises. When God asks something of us He will make a way for us, and He will always follow through with His plan.
When they reached the top of the mountain Abraham built an alter and laid Isaac on it, as the Lord had requested. Just in that moment an angel’s voice called to Abraham and told him not to lay a hand on the boy. God knew that Abraham feared of the Lord and that Abraham would not withhold anything from God. Abraham looked up from his son to see a ram caught in the bushes near by, he used this animal instead as a burnt sacrifice instead of his son.
This story of Abraham reminds me of the day God Himself would give up His one and only Son as a sacrifice for all of us. John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, so that whoever believes in Him will have ever lasting life.” I am so grateful that we can fully trust in a God who provides. Even in the hardest times, God promises to be with us and to love us. That He will always be on our side fighting for us through all of life’s battles. We simply have to acknowledge our sin, ask Jesus into our hearts, and allow Him to be Lord of everything in our life.
What are some of the things God provides for us everyday?
What is one way we can show God we are thankful for all He gives to us?
I would like us to pray now thanking God for His provision and promise of safe keeping. Let’s thank Him for His gift of His son Jesus and the hope of joining Him in heaven one day.
