It has warmed up a bit since yesterday, and the snow is getting to the stage of almost slush, very heavy and hard to drive in. I know this because for the millionth time this week I was out shoveling the driveway. There is good and bad with each season, but my back is definitely not impressed at the moment.
Annaliese came home early from school with an upset tummy this afternoon. The poor girl is downstairs watching Netflix while I spend a bit of quiet time working through this devotional. Debating on whether or not I take her in to the ER and get her checked out or if we hang out and do the “wait and see” thing. Looking for that mom balance thing.
Jesse Tree Devotional Day 21 (Older Couple Symbol)
There was a Jewish priest named Zechariah, his wife’s name was Elizabeth. The couple was childless and well past the age of having children. The time came for Zechariah to enter into the presence of God to burn incense in the temple. When Zechariah entered an angel of the Lord appeared beside him. Zechariah was startled and very afraid, The angel said to him;
“Do not be afraid Zechariah, because your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will name him John. There will be joy and delight for you, and many will rejoice at his birth. For he will be great in the sight of the Lord and he will never drink wine or beer. He will be filled with the Holy Spirit while still in his mother’s womb. He will turn many of the sons of Israel to the Lord their God.”
When Zechariah heard this he asked the angel “how can this happen?” The angel replied by telling Zechariah that he was the angel Gabriel, one who stands in the presence of God. Because of his instant disbelief, the angel told Zechariah that he would not be able to speak until this all took place. When Zechariah left the temple the other people outside realized he had been given a vision from the Lord. But because he was unable to speak, Zechariah could not explain fully what had taken place.
After he returned home, his wife Elizabeth indeed became pregnant with a son. After Elizabeth gave birth it was suggested that they name the boy after his father Zechariah. Elizabeth and Zechariah were both in agreement and Zechariah wrote on a tablet “HIS NAME IS JOHN.” They were all amazed and in that instant Zechariah’s mouth was opened and he was able to speak again. People from all over wondered who or what this child would become, for they knew God’s hand was with him.
Can you remember a time you were told such good news you didn’t believe it at first?
How long did it take for the news to sink in?
Can you imagine not being able to speak to anyone for almost a year?
Let’s use our voices to pray to God! We can thank God for our family, and the plan He had to include each one of us in the Duffield family. Let’s also pray for those without families and ask God to show us how we can be His hands and feet here on earth.
