Forming A Personalized Prayer Using Scripture | 2017 Journal

January 12, 2017

It is the 3rd snow day this week, I did not have the heart this morning to force Annaliese to go to school with Violet (who was happy and giddy with excitement to go). So Annaliese is home bouncing around downstairs as I take a few to pray, read, and write in my gratitude journal. I wanted to sneak on here quickly and share thoughts I had during this time. Hoping to be an encouragement as you start your plan to break down walls and strengthen your relationship with God in 2017, following my vision post yesterday.

When I am in the habit of sitting down to do a daily quiet time I like to use the book; Simple Abundance: A Day Book of Comfort and Joy by Sarah Ban Breathnach. Along with whatever Bible study I am currently working through, I find this book to set me in the right direction for living with intention. Today these words stood out to me;

“The simpler we make our lives, the more abundant they become.”

I think the journey I want to take in 2017 is completely summed up in that quote. Taking control of the busyness and schedules I have set up in my life. Taking back the high standard I hold myself to – what I share, and how I share it with the world. To stop worrying about what someone else is doing, or how successful they are. To be me, to say no, to say yes, to live the life God has planned for me well.

I have picked up the habit of taking Biblical truths and/or specific verses, then turning those into personal prayers over the past seven years at TLC (a ladies Bible study group I attend). More recently a study on The Armor of God by Priscilla Shirer had tear out note cards in the back for this purpose. Yesterday, I took the verses from Mark (4:18-20) and wrote them down on a card as personal prayer for myself.

Awesome Father, as I begin my journey through 2017 I come before you to ask for your forgiveness. God, I have been a seed thrown among the thorns. I heard your word and I claimed it as truth, but the worries of this age and the lure of great wealth distracted me from your plan for my life. The desire for other things ahead of you Lord, has a stronghold on me only you can break. I do not want to be unfruitful, I do not want to be useless to your plan here on earth. I ask that you shape me and mold me to be the person you have planned for me to become. Grow my crop to be 30, 60, and 100 times what you have sown. God please use me. In your holy and precious name, Jesus – Amen.

I am excited to share the space we created in our small house for my quiet time – my “War Room,” but that will be a post for another day! Today I would love to hear how you spent your quiet time, and the steps you are taking to shape your personal vision for growth in 2017. Have you started? Do you have a verse, or theme you would like to work out?
