When we moved into our small home five years ago we had an 18 month old and a baby on the way. Knowing at the time they would be sharing the upstairs bedroom I used fun, bright (girly) wallpaper, and painted the small closet a shade of hot pink to match. As time passed and our family grew, we moved the 3 girls to a smaller bedroom down stairs. Now that we plan to keep the younger boys upstairs closer to us, I want to redecorate that space specifically with them in mind.
I feel a slight twinge of guilt over the boys having this girly bedroom, that their mark on our home has not effected the place we call theirs. I know they don’t really mind or notice, but for me it is a bigger deal, I want them to feel the space is theirs and not left over from their older sisters. Decorating, or creating a space that is warm and inviting for my family is important to me, so I can’t wait to get on this project.
I thought it might be fun to share the process on here with you, starting with the direction I want the room to go in. Pinterest is my go to when I need a simple, quick way to organize my vision – plus there are a million and one different ideas I can learn from. I have created a board and labelled it; “boys room”. Here are a few of my favourites, hopefully giving you a good idea of the style I want to go in.
What do you think? This will be my first time decorating for boys, I am hoping for a theme that will easily grow with them. I would love to hear your ideas, simple tips or helpful hints you have for decorating with little boys in mind.
